Experimenting with clay annd cyanotype, varied sizes, October 2023.
Early experimentation with layering found materials and photographic negatives to create cyanotype prints. Here I played with varying exposure times and fabrics to explore colour depth and tones.

Cyanotype prints with clay, varied sizes, October 2023.
Using clay as a new material, as a medium that can document, take shape of the site and hold memory itself. With influence of works like The Boyle family’s ‘Earth studies’ combining site-specific material and casting surfaces I explored combining this technique with the printing process. Although this created some interesting works I felt this was less sucessful for larger works adding weight and sharpness to draped fabrics.

Cyanotype prints on paper, each 30 x 30cm, October 2023.
Early prints on paper allowed for experimentation with negative images and exposure times. These works initiated processes in my practice of going to sites and collecting material to be re-recorded using cyanotype.
Outdoor prints, Cyanotype on cotton using natural materials, each piece 120 x 70 cm, October 2023.
Prints outside using bleached cotton and layered with found materials produced textured weathered prints. Darker tones and shadows resulted from varied exposure times. Making these outside also allow me to create larger prints that capture the site as is, and contrast visually to using negatives. Using the sunlight to print allowed me to experiment with a more uncontrollable process.
